Caring for a bird properly the moment it hits the water is a major factor to the quality of your mount!

Keep it Clean
1) Avoid letting your bird sit in water, and do your best to keep mud and blood off of your bird.
Keep them dry and in a safe place.
Retrieve it and leave it
2) Take any trophies from your dog as soon as possible, to reduce chewing or licking.
Hard mouthed dogs can easily tear skin or loosen feathers.
Shot damage
3) ALWAYS Check birds for damage, consider if they are suitable as a mount. Blown off wing feathers, feet, large holes or lost feathers cannot be replaced.
Do not store birds in pantyhose!
1) Wrap the head and bill in dry paper towel, then tuck under a wing
2) Wrap the feet best you can
3) Tuck wings and keep feathers flat, freeze asap in a ziplock plastic bag
